Counselling and Psychotherapy Association Canberra and Region (CAPACAR) Inc. is a professional association of counsellors and psychotherapists based in the ACT. It was established in 1994. Members of CAPACAR Inc. are professional counsellors and psychotherapists who work in organisations and in private practice. Our members practice a wide variety of counselling modalities and their specialties and areas of interest cover the full spectrum of therapeutic issues and client groups.

CAPACAR Inc. seeks to ensure that the services provided by its members meet a high professional and ethical standard. CAPACAR Inc. promotes professional and ethical conduct and a high standard of practice through professional development activities such as regular meetings, seminars, discussions and workshops. Members qualify by meeting recognised training standards and demonstrated counselling experience and supervision in accordance with PACFA requirements.

Our Purpose

To support and advance the conduct and standing of the counselling profession in Australia by:

• Providing a forum for the exchange of information, knowledge, best practice and research on counselling matters;
• Encouraging appropriate levels of qualifications and experience amongst counsellors;
• Fostering awareness in the community of the place of counselling in individual, group and organisational settings; and
• Supporting appropriate standards and practice for counsellors.
